Upcoming Events (That aren't all Chacmool)

As with every year, spring/summer is when things really ramp up for archaeology and anthropology, with conferences, research opportunities, job postings, and sometimes simply a nice break from classes.

The Archaeological Society of Alberta (ASA) - Calgary Centre is having their February Lecture Series on Wednesday, February 19th at 7:30pm at the Central Public Library - Patricia A. Whelan Room. Michael Parker-Pearson from the University College London is presenting on the New Discoveries at Stonehenge.

They're also having their Flintknapping Workshop in February this year, on Saturday and Sunday, February 22nd and 23rd, at Heritage Park. It's $30 for one day, or $50 for both days. Contact Brent at info@arkycalgary.com if you're interested.

The Canadian Archaeological Association (CAA) is having their annual conference in Edmonton this year (read: not too far away!).

It will be held at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton, from May 6-9, 2020. Registration for student members is only $70 and there are some really interesting sessions, papers, get-togethers and panels, and a student Meet and Greet, and Career Panel.

They are also still accepting abstracts until February 20th (in 7 days), so if you want to join a session or present a paper, you should get that in soon! There's the student Ethics Bowl, as well - you can make a team and debate ethical case studies against your peers from near and far. Many students and faculty from the U of C will be attending and presenting, so you'll certainly know some faces.

We have some fun events coming up, as well:

  • Tuesday, March 3rd, 12:30-1:30pm in ES 859: CV and Resume Writing Workshop

  • Thursday, March 5th, 5:00pm: free night at the Glenbow Museum + Drinks after!

  • Week of March 9-13th, (specific date TBD): Archaeologists in the Spotlight: What It's Like to Work in CRM with Dr. Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer

  • Saturday, March 28th, 10:00am-12:00pm, location TBD: CRM Career Day!

Hope to see you all at some of these!
