Current Volunteer Postings

Two volunteer research opportunities are available in the Venkataraman Lab for motivated students in anthropology and archaeology.

Literature search and data entry for database on energetics of human subsistence. The student will contribute to a growing database on characteristics of human subsistence strategies across the globe. The student will conduct literature searches and perform data entry in regular consultation with Prof. Vivek Venkataraman. The student will become familiar with ethnographic literature, and improve literature review and Excel skills. Some quantitative experience preferred. Motivated individual(s) will have the opportunity to pursue independent research using the database that may lead to publications in peer-reviewed journals. (Duration: a few hours per week, 3-4 months)

 

Data entry for field project on indigenous health in Malaysia. The field project (Orang Asli Health and Lifeways Project), co-led by Prof. Vivek Venkataraman, aims to characterize and improve the health and well-being of the indigenous inhabitants (Orang Asli) of the Malay Peninsula. The student will help to enter data survey data on demography and household attributes into Excel. The student will improve Excel skills, become familiar with ethnographic survey methodologies, and have the opportunity to pick up the basics of a new language (Malay).

(Duration: a few hours per week, 2 months)
